In the screening programme and the spatial intervention Prendre la parole: up for / about / on behalf of / out / with / over, we research traces, visual manifestations and formal presentations of language and speech in moving image works from and about feminist movements and discourses around sex work since the early 1970s. We recorded attempts of overlapping positions in feminism(s) and sex workers’ movements as well as extensions of the discourse to other interdependent perspectives.

With a focus on the various possibilities and problematics of (re)presenting critical acts of speaking, we try to unravel potential analogies between image production and feminist critique. We propose a viewing that opens up a space for conversations between the works, the audience and across time.

We consider and re-view these works to be able to understand our own positions within related discussions today. We propose a spatial reading of constellations of how to speak today not about these issues, but with them, to speak out but not over.

Both the screening programme and the spatial intervention stem from films by Carole Roussopoulos in the Médiathèque. Our research was made in relation with Centre Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir Paris and Cinenova London, two film and video collections specifically dedicated to feminist moving image productions and related material.
